After careful study and selection, the HCO has produced a large number of authentic copies and applications of famous or more humble originals now kept in Greek museums.
They have been made by skilled modern artists and their models have been recommended by expert scholars. Sculptures carved in the round or in relief, in marble and in bronze, terracotta figurines and vases, silver and gold jewellery and coins, wall-paintings and modern items with themes inspired by ancient Greek and Byzantine art - all these are produced in modern materials with great care and a high level of artistic sensitivity, with the aim of familiarising the general public with the art and daily life of ancient Greece.
Copies of Attic pottery, made on the wheel, casts made in the traditional material, the plaster, or metal, using the lost wax technique, copies and silk-screen prints of wall-paintings are the major categories of items on display and available from the HCO shops.
So, in addition to seeing museums inside or outside the archaeological sites, visitors are able to draw close to the world of antiquity by acquiring an authentic copy of an original work of great artistic value.
